Ah, I guess that's why you guys had so much trouble with me!

Regardless, I _did_ renew.  The issue was credit card vs. check.  I sent my
credit card number/expiration date twice before finally giving up and sending
a check.  My LJ subscription successfully renewed once I sent the check.
