It's ironic that in an issue where you argue for the HMO coverage of contraceptives, Ellen Barry proclaims the virtues of overpopulation (population growth). Eric Widmaier's thesis that we shouldn't have survived has yet to be born out and probably we shouldn't survive if the environmental destruction due to our thirst for suburban homes, luxurious cars, and fresh meat on the table continues. (By the way, Widmaier's claim that humans are omnivores is also doubtful -- we do not have canines.) Since a change in our consumptive behaviors is unlikely any time soon, our extinction should be as humane as possible: lowering birth rates below replacement level. So, let's push for the complete accessibility of contraceptives for all! --- robert | email:http://dummy.us.eu.org/robert | http://www./~robertb | voice: x100 |
