For bicyclists ad sympathizers. It isn't that we don't have enough to do, if
you can take a look at the web site and do what you agree with and do what
you can. Don

This is THE crucial time for gaining bike access to the Bay Bridge for the
next century. The public comment period on the proposed plans for a new
bay bridge is ending in only a month. This is the time to take action if
you want to see any hope for cycling--and reduction in traffic and
pollution--on the Bay Bridge.
Four things you can do:
1) Call the comment line, it's easy! (510) 817-1717 and press "7".
Ask for a separated bike path meeting the American Disabilities
Act requirements. Also ask for a dedicated bus lane adaptable
to light rail. Mention your name and city of work/residence.
2) Help gather signatures for a petition calling for a bike path.
You can print one off the web, copy it, and place it at local
bike stores and take it to your favorite rides, meetings, and
gatherings:
http://www.xinet.com/bike/access/sfobb/petition.html
3) Come to the next Metropolitan Transportation Commission hearing on the
design, in Martinez, and especially contact friends from the
Martinez/Concord area who could attend and speak to the Commission:
Wednesday April 16 1997, 5:30-7:30 PM
County Administration Building
Board of Supervisors Chambers
651 Pine Street, Room 107
(cross-street is Escobar)
Martinez, CA
(Don't forget to wear a bike helmet)
Directions: Take concord (Bay Point) line to North Concord
BART, then either get a transfer and take the 108 bus (50
cents) or bike: go left out of the BART station and get on
Olivera near the SHELL and TACO BELL--take a right and go a
short distance until you get to the Drive-In-Theatre, then
fork (soft) right onto Marsh Creek (alongside the MAGESSON
DODGE DEALERSHIP). Go until you see the CHEAPER GAS and
turn right, onto Pacheco. Follow Pacheco for a while
to a traffic light where either a SCOTTY'S or a WALLY'S
RENTS is. Then, turn left to stay on Pacheco. When
you get to Suzanna, turn left again. The County
Administration building will be in sight. You can turn
left on Pine soon thereafter and the building will be
on your right.
--These are the instructions I gathered from the County
Connections line, I asked extensively to make sure I had
them correct. She said it was actually "a real nice ride"
on bike.
4) Get involved with the printing and distribution of bumper stickers
to Bay Bridge commuters calling for a bike path. For more
information contact Alex Zuckerman of REBAC (Regional Bicycle
Access Committee), http://www.aol.com/~REBACazu
