Amy Chua and many authors like her conveniently overlook the fact that
Mussolini's Italy was a capitalist society that never evolved into a
democracy. (Mussolini in fact said that "fascism is corporatism".) Amy Chua'
s contention that China, with its capitalist market reforms, is clearly on the
road to democracy is not so obvious and directly conflicts with Harvard
University's Professor Amartya Sen's studies revealing that democracy brings
prosperity rather than prosperity bringing democracy.
