Another alternative:
Linksys WAP with
D-Link 704 (or equivalent)
The WAP would handle the wireless part (try to get 802.11g) and the D-Link
would be the router and can handle a RS-232-based external modem. It would
be more expensive than a single Linksys unit, but you'd be able to use
this set-up immediately without a cable modem and also if you move to
somewhere that doesn't have cable modems.
You could first purchase the 802.11g-based Linksys WAP to first set-up
your wireless network. If you were to get that "shared network" software
for your one computer (or install Linux :-), then you might not even need
the D-Link router.
