Congratulations, and Thank You for registering with RIDES.org. You've taken a great first step towards improving your commute! If you are already riding with someone you found through RIDES, congratulations again - you're a web-savvy commuter! However, if you are still wondering what to do with those names that appeared in your matchlist, read on. First of all, don't be shy! Take advantage of the RIDES email feature to make the first contact. If you haven't heard from anyone in a few days, send a follow-up message. Once you're in touch with a 'hot prospect,' use email or the phone to work out the details and the "ground rules:" - Decide who will drive and when. Most carpools rotate driving responsibilities. - Choose a mutually convenient meeting place. Either pickup your carpool partner at their home or meet in a central location like a Park and Ride lot. - Decide how long the driver will wait for the others before leaving. Synchronize your watches! - Discuss personal preferences. Decide ahead of time about smoking, radio stations, eating, drinking and any other personal preferences. - Consider doing a 'trial run' for a day or even a week. This makes it easy to call off the arrangement if you don't feel comfortable. Good luck!
