If you selected self-installation, you may not see the SBC employee, and if your outside telephone wiring area is accessible, you do not need to be present for them to do the installation. In that case, they may leave a tag on your door to indicate that they are finished with the initial testing, a few days before the actual final installation. For self-installation, your equipment and full instructions will arrive via UPS shortly, and once connected, should work by the 6pm on the installation due date. We find that some customers circuits work a couple days early, so if you've got your equipment and you're eager, you may want to plug it all in! **Installation Process, Helpful Tips & Additional Package Options: Here are a few things you can do to help make your DSL installation go smoothly. *Note that if you're doing a self install, you may not actually see the installer doing their testing on-site, so some of this may not apply. 1. Get the installer's business card when he or she arrives, in case you need to followup with them later. If they do not have a card, please note their full name as it appears on their ID badge, and ask them for a phone number for their desk or pager. 2. If the installation can't be completed because of technical problems, and the installer wants to leave, please contact us immediately at 707-547-3400 before the installer leaves and let the installer explain exactly what the problem is and how and when it will be resolved. If you're unable to get the installer in touch with Sonic.net, please ask them for a written explanation of the nature of the trouble, a timeline for resolution and contact information for the people who will be working on it within PacBell. 3. For helpful local discussions on our DSL service, please take a look at our DSL discussion group at: news://news.sonic.net/sonic.dsl 4. If there is a problem during your installation or you have any questions contact the technical support group at 707-547-3400. It is important that you report trouble within 24 hours. Note that local phone numbers for our support group are available in most areas, see the "Find Dialups" section of our home page to look up one for your area. **Do you need additional IP Addresses? Sonic.net is now offering a block of 4 free additional IP addresses for PacBell DSL connected customers ($12 Value). For customers with multiple PCs, this allows for sharing of the DSL connection on up to four computers simultaneously. All of your computers can access the Internet at the same time, sharing the fast connection as needed by each system. This solution is ideal for homes with multiple computers or small office networks. 8 IP addresses are available for an additional $12 per month for PacBell DSL connected customers. You can migrate from the single IP initially assigned to a new block of 4 or 8 IP addresses using our online member tools, linked from the home page at http://www.sonic.net/. To get directly to the IP migration tool, the URL is: https://sonic.sonic.net/cgi-bin/membertools/dsl_sub.pl Only a standard Ethernet hub or switch and your existing DSL bridge are needed to take advantage of this new offering. We've made it easy to connect multiple PCs in your home or office to your DSL without the purchase of expensive hardware or software. CompUSA or other retailers can provide information on Ethernet hubs or even home phone line (HomePNA) networking hardware for your home or office. *Note that this tool will not be available and functional until after your DSL is installed, and must be accessed from the currently assigned IP address, listed above. Sonic.net is committed to continuing to deploy additional features and services on both our broadband and dialup services. We hope that this new feature adds value for you to our DSL service. This is a new standard ongoing service offering, so please, to conserve IP address space, only migrate if and when you have multiple machines that you need to address. For any questions or discussion about this new feature, please see the DSL discussion group news:sonic.dsl **AFTER YOUR INSTALLATION: A couple of actions with regard to your telephone line will need to be managed through Sonic.net, so please make a note. If you are moving, or would like to disconnect DSL service, please contact Sonic.net. If either of these cases occur please email http://www.sonic.net/~support for assistance or give us a call. **DO YOU HAVE ANY FEEDBACK? Here are a number of places you can go to let us know how we are doing: 1. Many prospective DSL customers use DSL Reports to decide which ISP partner to select for their DSL service. We'd appreciate your honest reviews and feedback in that forum, as we feel that it's a great place for people to learn about our DSL services. You can reach our review page on DSL Reports at: http://www.dslreports.com/comments/896 To file your own new review of Sonic.net, you'll need to log in using the button on the upper right (creating a new DSL Reports account if needed) and then return to the comments page above and select "Review online" on the upper right side of the page. You can also give feedback under other customer reviews if you would like. While you're there, take a look at the "DSLR Tools" and "Community" forum and poll sections, we you may find useful resources and discussions regarding DSL. 2. We'd appreciate your participation in the news:sonic.dsl local discussion newsgroup. We've got many local DSL customers in active dialogs about various features, questions and issues related to their Sonic.net DSL service, and we think that your participation would be valuable. You can ask for help with obscure issues, give feedback to staff and other customers about features, etc. In most email clients, you should be able to click the URL below to reach the newsgroup; if this fails, Sonic.net support can assist you in setting up your news reader software. news://news.sonic.net/sonic.dsl 3. Please assist us in spreading the word about Sonic.net, our dialup and our DSL service. In particular, the static IP addressing we provide for DSL customers and available friendly customer care really make us different from other DSL providers. However, some people are not aware of the importance of these differences and features, or even think that dealing with the phone company directly for their DSL will be easier. They can end up with PPPoE dynamic "dialup" DSL, far fewer features, and without the assistance of our award winning, friendly support team. 4. Refer a friend or family member. Most of our new members are referred from existing customers, and we've just updated our rewards program in recognition of this. For details on the referral program and the free service or merchandise you can receive, see: http://www.sonic.net/sales/referral/ Lani http://www.sonic.net/~support Sonic.net DSL Dept. http://www.sonic.net/
