Can you divide up the amount? If so, it may be worth putting some into
the stock market, despite its extreme volatility. I suspect the stock
market won't really do much for a while, but neither will gold/precious
metals. If you can do an "exchange" of part of the mutual fund into
something else, you can sell without incurring selling fees. I would
suggest any conservative "income" fund, especially if it has foreign
(non-US) holdings as part of its portfolio. Europe seems to be doing
better these days -- looking for Europe-based stocks in a fund may be
good.
In any case, keeping all your money in precious metals is probably a bad
idea. Diversification is the key.
