Yeah, I should install that.  I'm hoping I can get a job so I'll have enough
money to buy a new (or, at least, another) laptop where I'll run only Linux and
then I can do all that stuff (installing OpenOffice, running Gnome, etc.)

I've never taken a computer course from UC Extension.  I've always learned
systems and programming languages on my own, and nobody has ever asked me "did
you take a course to learn this?"  It seems like most emphasis comes from
references who only know what programming languages and systems you used at
your workplace.  So, ultimately, it seems like professional experience is the
only kind that employers pay attention to.
