Actually, I think my old laptop has bad memory. So, about 1.5 months ago, I bought a Dell laptop with Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) installed. It works great, except for a few hardware quirks (my external monitor doesn't go into standby and my external mouse and keyboard occassionally just cut-out/freeze). I am slightly disappointed with some of the limitations of the software (at work, I run xkeymacs which enables emacs on all my windows -- there's nothing like that for Linux/Ubuntu), but otherwise works great. And since it's Debian (which I've been using for years), it's all familiar.
