Well, I think you should say that, since this is one of the few
opportunities that you'll get to earn CE points, you'll be taking time off
during that time to attend the conference. If they refuse, suggest that
they fire you. Then, at least, you'd get unemployment. If they refuse to
fire you on the spot, go to the conference anyway and maybe they'll fire
you, then.
