Is this how labor day started(European version May 1)? ________________________________ From: Sr. Michele Randall Sent: Friday, May 01, 2009 8:23 AM To: OCH Everyone Subject: May 1 - Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker May 1st Saint Joseph was a humble man, a compassionate man, a caring man, a man who accepted hardship and danger. Saint Joseph was a man of faith, obedient to whatever God asked of him without knowing the outcome, a man who placed others first in his life. In that mysterious anguish of not understanding what was taking place with Mary his one thought was to protect her. The responsibility of saving Jesus from Herod he did unquestionably because he cherished the life of an infant. Joseph fades from Scripture when Jesus became older yet the virtues of Joseph remain down through the ages. Joseph was just and strong - he protected his family, he was an expression of God's Fatherhood. Joseph was and is a model of goodness. Saint Joseph is a wonderful model for fathers, but, also, a wonderful model for each of us - virtue knows no gender. Each of us can practice the virtues of Joseph, each of us can be just and strong. Justice is sharing what we have with those less fortunate; being strong is being the voice of the voiceless, protecting those who cannot protect themselves. As the refrain from the song "We are Called" states - "we are called to act with justice, we are called to love tenderly, we are called to serve one another; to walk humbly with God." Simply put, we are called to be Saint Joseph in our day, in our world. Happy Feast! Sister Michele, D.C.
