Actually, I looked into it. I think I know what may be going on.
Last week or maybe the week before last, I changed my mail system so that
it would "learn" emails which contain attachments. It looks like one of
my spams "learners" (dspam) fails and that causes the first attempt to
fail; the subsequent attempt succeeds.
I'll see if I can fix it.
