Hi, fellow plant eaters,

As local plant-munching old-timers such as myself recall, years ago there was a vegetarian diner in lled Michael's. They had an extensive menu, with sandwiches, platters, pizza, a salad bar, and on and on. They even had "lobster." It wasn't health food, but it was satisfying. And the decor consisted of red vinyl booths and chrome. Sadly, Michael's closed years ago.

Saturn Cafe is a vegetarian diner whose original Santa Cruz location has been open since 1979. They opened in second location, in , last year. Hooray! But there weren't many vegan options. Boo-o-o! Since then, they've received a lot of requests for more vegan items, and they've responded (for example, they now use Follow Your Heart vegan cheese). Yay! So let's check it out. As you'll recall, we all order vegan when we eat together.

If at least 20 of us come, Saturn will set aside a separate room, the Space Lounge, for us.

Saturn's very easy to get to, just steps from the Downtown BART station, on Allston at Oxford, adjacent to campus.

As you probably know, I pay Meetup $180 per year to organize this group. That doesn't include my time and energy in choosing restaurants, making reservations, answering emails, and such. So chip in a couple bucks to reimburse me. Do it either here on the website or in person at the event (and please remember so I don't need to ask). You DO NOT need to have a Paypal account to pay via Paypal. You can just use your credit card.

Also, if you or your business--or one you know of--would like to sponsor this group, please let me know, so I can discuss details with them. With sponsorship, I won't need to ask for reimbursement from members.
