Hi Noelle,
Funny you should mention shoulder impingement and frozen shoulder because
it's a common thing among women our age. I had it, my sister, and a friend
of mine are all other women I know of who have had it (all in their 40's and
50's when it happened). I went through PT for it in early 2008. Hope your
PT goes well. I know it can be very painful at times. My treatment was
complicated 1.5 months into it by a bad fall I had - of course unfortunately
I tried to break the fall with my bad arm at the time. I had to go through
some more painful PT massages in order to break up the scar tissue from the
fall.
Thanks for the offer about workers comp. Yes, it would be good to get
Robert's feedback and advise on what he learned of Workers Comp and what to
look out for while I go through this process and decision making. I've been
dealing with trigger finger for over a year now. Luckily the trigger finger
in the ring fingers and left thumb have resolved with PT, but in my right
dominant thumb it persists even after two cortisone shots. So I'm at the
point that I think I should get a second opinion and decide about whether I
should have surgery or not. The orthopedic hand specialist at the workers
comp heath clinic that the County uses has suggested surgery. But I feel
that I should at least get a second opinion before deciding what to do and
who to do it.
Thanks for the lead on the CHIA ad. It sounds like something perhaps I could
do. I'm still interested in the HIM-IT program at Mission, etc since I have
a computer science background and have worked with engineering/IT types for
many years. In that sense the IT part might be a better fit for me. All I
know is that my HIT career is stuck right now and stagnating while I work at
delivering and filing charts. I agree with you about it seems no one wants
to bother training us these days. They all want experienced HIM people and
purport the future labor force deficit of HIM professionals, but don't want
to expend the time to train them. Or is it that they don't want to train
anyone over 50?
I'm surprised that Heather and her husband still have the Civic. I would
have thought that it would have sold long before now.
Take care,
Linda

Robert went through Workers Comp(back in the 90s). If you want
to ask him about it, I can have him e-mail you. He writes with
his left hand because the tendinitis in his right (dominant)
hand was so damaging.
I'm doing physical therapy now, in Nov I injured my shoulder(I
was doing some yoga poses I thought I was ready for, but was
not). The MD said it was impingement, or it could be progressing
to frozen shoulder(adhesive capsulitis).

I went to an informational meeting about it(Nicki Quilici
happened to be there too, we were the only HIT people, everyone
else seemed to be IT). It did not seem that appealing to me,more
oriented to IT-types. Then they said you could work at the
Regional Extension Centers, be entrepreneurial and market to MD
offices.
I e-mailed Nicki about the El Camino job after I got your
e-mail.
There's also a job ad in the CHIA Journal, this company
contracts with long term care facilities, they check the
documentation,MDS--they said they are willing to train those
without that experience. I may apply for that, but it seems no
one wants to bother training us these days

PS Heather still has that Honda. Her husband was rear-ended on
101 driving it,it's not very damaged(other car lost control).
