Oh, you need to get to his LinkedIn profile itself.  I think there's a
link to get there, something like "contact this person" or something.
Then, it will show you the inside-LinkedIn view of his profile, and then
you can connect.

Or, even better, try to contact him through your network.  Then, you may
be able to find out who is connected to this person.

I would also try the below search, too, because contacting him through
someone he knows would be best because there's already a level of trust
there.
