Jason - I realized after yesterday's chat that you may have thought that I was leaving because I am unhappy with the situation at work per-se.
This is not the case.
The primary reasons for leaving are (1) the commute sucks, (2) working remotely, especially when I'm supposed to be tech lead, sucks, and (3) I am tired of doing big data analytics (which I've been doing for about 6 years now) and have been wanting to change career directions.
So, it is unlikely that there would've been anything you or anybody there could have done to change this to make it better.
What's more, one of the directions I had been interested in is computer security and that's what was being offered. (I have some other interests, which are on my LinkedIn profile.)
There is another factor, which is that, when I was at Macrosoft, my performance reviews continued to get worse each year and I think that I actually get bored after about one year at a job and I just don't acknowledge it. So, my new thinking is that I should start trying to find greener pastures after about one year to try to avoid this downward spiral -- sort of the Jerry Seinfeld method of leaving while the going's good.
Hope this clarifies things.
