> Hello WCSV Volunteers!
>
> We have some wonderful updates for you to enjoy!
>
> Shift Updates:
>
> 1. Please be mindful of the produce you are using. ALWAYS use the
> older produce before digging into our new produce stash. We are trying to
> reduce the amount of rotten food.
>
> 2. Please do not work on any animal related task you are not
> assigned to. If you have completed your assigned tasks and would like to
> continue to help, please see animal care staff, or your shift captain. This
> will reduce any confusion on our end, and make sure all animal tasks are
> covered.
>
> 3. We are running extremely low on large towels. Please let us know
> if you have any to spare!
>
> 4. Make sure the laundry you are folding is dry. The laundry is
> taking several cycles to dry if our dryers are overfilled, or the lint
> traps are not cleaned out. Please make sure you are cleaning out the lint
> traps after each cycle!
>
> 5. Please do not dump dirt, rocks or other hard materials in our
> sink. Make sure to keep the covers over the drains! This will prevent
> unwanted material falling down the drain.

> · WCSV is experiencing high Gull intakes. This time of year
> it is not uncommon for WCSV to take in high volumes of juvenile waterbirds.
> Please make sure to follow all safety guidelines when working with birds
> such as gulls. Never be afraid to ask for assistance if you are
> uncomfortable caring for the many different species of waterbirds WCSV
> receives this time of year.
>
> · WCSV received a bobcat that was hit by a car in the east
> foothills. Fish and Wildlife Wardens rushed the animal to WCSV caregivers
> at 11pm one night. The next morning the cat was tranquilized at WCSV and
> staff found the animal had a fractured right femur. Staff quickly rushed
> the animal to Adobe Animal Hospital where the cat was examined by Dr. Boltz
> (specializes in felines!) Due to the severity of the fracture, Dr. Boltz
> felt the only treatment was to surgically place a plate over the fracture
> leg. After a couple hours under anesthesia, the cat awoke from her surgery.
> As of today the bobcat is doing well. Her prognosis will remain guarded
> until we see how she is able to move and hunt in our new outdoor enclosure.
> WCSV is going to take follow up radiographs to see how her fracture is
> healing. We cannot thank Adobe Animal Hospital enough! All the work they do
> for WCSV is probono! :-) Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for her full
> story along with pictures. We will continue to keep everyone posted on her
> progress.
