One applies for almost all jobs online. The questions are (1) whether you
find out about the job in the first place (some are listed, but only for
brief periods (Macrosoft did this when it had every intention of hiring
internally, but needed to post the job publically to comply with state
laws)), (2) whether you already know the people interviewing you (which is
usually helpful), and (3) whether you've talked to people who have been
through the hiring process (including passing any tests for the position).

In other words, knowing people almost always makes it easier to get a job.
For people like Nick and me who are slow to make friends, staying out of
the house and around people is the best way to get to know people.
Volunteering can be one way to do this. There are other techniques, too,
but almost all of them, volunteering included, are usually uncomfortable
because they involve interacting with people.

Almost everybody uses Excel at their work. It has been the Achilles' Heel
of data mining organizations everywhere, including forcesales when I left
it.
