You're right in that it would be a good idea to turn off remote services on the
macbook.
Thanks for the information about turning off the Secure Boot before installing
Linux Mint.

Can't you turn off all remote services?

I recently had to replace my main computer, and it had Windows 8 on it. I did
the same thing. The problem was that it has UEFI on it. So, I needed to turn
off Secure Boot and enable Legacy Boot to get Linux installed.
So, now, if I ever want to boot into Windows (why I would do that, I don't know)
, I have to get into the BIOS and switch back to Secure Boot.
I installed the latest Linux Mint Debian Edition on it.
