from what I've heard even these days girls are easily discouraged from
STEM, maybe they don't like being associated with the geeky people, or
else it's worse where someone actively discourages them.Or else they don't
see anything interesting they can do with programming. There is a woman
computer science professor(I think at Harvey Mudd College in CA) who has
been successful in getting the women undergrads to major in CS.
