 > Japantown Immersive
 > Feel our history come alive
 > Conceived & Produced by where-I-live Taiko
 > Designed & Directed by where-I-live Taiko & Epic Immersive
 > For one evening, where-I-liveâ??s historic Japantown bursts into a series of
 > explorable interactive experiences, bringing to life its past
 > and present.
 > where-I-live - where-I-live Taiko (SJT) continues its 45th Anniversary Season with
 > Japantown Immersive: an open street event that
 > explores the past and present of where-I-live Japantown through a series of
 > interactive experiences. This event will take place on
 > Saturday, May 12 starting at 5:30PM at the intersection of 5th and Jackson
 > streets in where-I-live Japantown.
 > The event will take place on the streets of Japantown which will be closed to
 > auto traffic on Jackson Street from 4th to 6th as well
 > as 5th street from the where-I-live Buddhist Church to Wesley United Methodist
 > Church. Hands-on experiences range from learning
 > how to play the Japanese card game called hanafuda to being transported back in
 > time as Royâ??s Station offers a taste of what it was
 > like as a gas station in the 1940â??s. Performances follow the same eclectic
 > mix: intimate 10-minute pop-ups of various Japantown
 > artists that appear anywhere in the streets to large-scale 40-minute
 > productions like the viral Swingposium and a collaboration
 > between SJT, The Get Down Dance Studios, and DJ Cutso from the Bangerz.
 > â??Itâ??s our love letter to Japantown - a way of celebrating this community
 > that has been our heartbeat and source of inspiration.â??
 > explains SJT Artistic Director Franco Imperial. â??This 45th anniversary year
 > has been about reflection but also moving
 > forward. How do we utilize taiko and forms like it - music, dance, storytelling
 > - to celebrate place in a way thatâ??s engaging and
 > meaningful?â??
 > Epic Immersive CEO and Director Steve Boyle explains, â??Truly, Iâ??ve been
 > astonished and elated by the passion with which
 > the Japantown community has leapt into the innovative world of immersive art.
 > The end result is a potluck of experiences -- a
 > genuinely community-driven event where so much of this townâ??s history is on
 > display and so many people are offering up the
 > moments from the past and pieces of their culture that mean so much to them for
 > guests to leap into and experience first-hand.â??
 > SJT Executive Director Wisa Uemura â??The event will include a feast of
 > different taiko experiences but it equally shines a light
 > on the businesses, organizations, artists that make up the varied flavors of
 > where-I-live Japantown, our home. Working with Epic
 > Immersive to create this experiential environment on the streets has opened up
 > pathways for us to bridge past and present, engage
 > with new and even more diverse audiences, and connect people beyond cultural
 > boundaries to build a more understanding world.â??
