They accept the slow gnawing away at liberties (ironically, through the "weapon" of the first amendment, among others); they don't notice that their children are worse off than they were, and that they are worse off than their parents. It only took Hilter 13 years before he became established. I sometimes wonder if Obama would have allowed more chipping away of liberties if there had been another terrorist attack, and whether he would've become our "dear leader" himself. Perhaps we only recognize these problems in Trump because he is a megalomaniac and a narcissist.
