Today, we had a so-called Health Fair at work. I talked with someone at Cigna about HSAs. Apparently, the high deductible plan that's paired with an HSA has a deductible of $3000. That means that, for this year, for my surgery, I would have saved about $2000. (It's hard to say whether that would be the exact amount, 'tho, given the co-pays and premium totals, but it would have been likely to be less.) So, the bottom line is that HSAs are a good deal if you have a catastrophe or if you use very little medical care, but not so great if you spend a moderate amount (more than the premiums and co-pays).
