The main problem with liberalism is that it has a lot of contradictions.
It's hard for politicians, let alone constituents, navigate these
contradictions.  Despite authoritarianism and anarchism being the least
contradictory and most straightforward ideologies, people seem to be OK
with inconsistent philosophies but they almost always end up in fights and
conflicts over the details.
