For me, it's a matter of time vs. money. At the moment, I have more money
than time so it's more worthwhile to get a repairperson to fix the
dishwasher than to spend the time futzing around with [non-computing]
machines, aside from the fact that I hate hardware. (I also keep paying
for our "home warranty" that we got when we bought the house in 2010,
despite it almost definitely being a rip-off; it is super convenient to
just enter a trouble ticket and then a repairperson gets in contact with
you. Before we finally replaced it, I filed two trouble tickets for the
dishwasher. I'm waiting for the fridge to go next...)

I didn't know that you were a serif fan. The default for most Linux user
interfaces these days is sans serif, and I always go through the trouble of
laboriously changing all the fonts to serif...
