Noelle and talked about this afterwards.

There is clearly some small value in not having empathy, but, certainly
around here and probably also in NYC, there is far too little to go
around.

Yesterday, our local radio station played the short commentary

 https://www.kqed.org/perspectives/201002030737/i-said-im-sorry

Certainly, you cannot force someone to feel regretful about their actions.

And this got me thinking about whether empathy can be taught, or if you're
just born with it or not, or learn it on your own over time or not.

(BTW, I've been reading
https://www.amazon.com/Time-Shifting-Creating-More-Enjoy/dp/0385483902
lately and in it the author says that, although you can get someone to
think about something, it's much more difficult to get them to feel
something.)
