Events are completely random and, when you want the few good people to live, they end up dying. But, like so many shows these days, everybody ends up being bad. Which is fine. You end up evaluating the characters on their "least badness". I like the scriptwriter's comment about bystanders. Most people are bystanders. And, because of this core fact, it is a great argument against large institutions, including the state and a central government, which, despite nobody caring, always have a drive to maintain their own power at the expense of destroying some people's lives. I won't finish reading the article since it looks like it delves into final season -- I don't want to ruin it.
