It would be lower risk overall because, if it doesn't work, we won't lose
as much money if we have to sell it.

I was hoping that, by this time, Spectre
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectre_(security_vulnerability) ) would've
been dealt with by Intel, but it looks like it hasn't been.  So, there's
no particular security advantage to buying a newer laptop.
