75 years ago the person on the left in this picture—Margaret Conwell Walsh--came into being. She then began to make her way circuitously in my direction. Of course, I had NO idea this was going on and, at that moment, no one else did either. Some months later the person on the right in this photo—Flora Mary Kerwin Walsh--with her husband’s assent, began to move in the yet-to-be-named Margaret’s direction with the help of Miss Mary Farr from Catholic Family Services. Miss Farr had placed me in Flora’s hands a couple of years before. I think Flora probably told Mary she’d like someone more gentle and easy to deal with than “that last one.” Miss Farr complied. When Flora and Harold adopted her our family became complete. Mom and Dad had led their young lives and they now wanted to share their love and caring as committed adult parents to that baby with big eyes, a ready smile and a gentle demeanor…and the other one. My sister was Margaret, Maggie, Mag, Mouse (and probably some other names as well) until she became, finally, Bhavani. But, behind the scenes, she allows me to call her “Marg” because she is aware that my doing so springs from the love I have for her and always will and we will share our love and gratitude toward the parents who adopted us, Flora and Harold, forever as well.
