AT&T copper retirement

Yeah, looks like this started happening last year.  Verizon also started.

CenturyLink is also trying to do this.

So, voice-over-IP (voip) with batteries is the future.  Unfortunately.
Luckily, Sonic.NET hasn't yet jumped on the bandwagon.

Just FYI: switching to fiber would cost $20 extra (about $85/month) and
the telephone ATA battery backup has an initial cost of $300 in addition
to the regular installation fees, which include new networking equipment.
