Just another sobering article: https://phys.org/news/2021-05-biodiversity-devastation-human-driven-decline-requires.html It's not enough that we have all these nuclear weapons hanging over our heads, but the planet's life systems are quickly dying off. We were listening to a podcast, and they were saying that there is a tipping point at which nobody cares about anything (i.e., no legacy concerns) if they knew that some time after their death, there would be a mass extinction of humans. The question they didn't answer was how long after your death that you knew of a human extinction would be the "don't care" tipping point? 1 year? 10 years? 100 years? > From: heather Howard <http://www.gmail.com/~hhoward40> > Date: Sun, 23 May 2021 11:27:57 -0700 > > Yes, but what is cool about this is that it started out as a lark at Stanford— > no participants took it seriously — and then it took off during Covid when > these kids need connections. > > I’ve heard about it for several years but this year it was a much bigger > deal.
