Not getting vaccinated is not only personally irresponsible, but also quite selfish. In fact, I'm surprised that, during this entire COVID-19 episode, nobody has mentioned measles and how anti-vaxers are also affecting the herd. Anyway, it's funny how Americans value individuality above all else, even if that means spending enormous amounts of money on technology (vaccines, in this case) rather than compromise and think more communally. It is obvious that Americans simply are more selfish, but that's not a story we're willing to tell ourselves. In any case, I predict the next pandemic will be fungus-based, which is going to be even more problematic. However, clearly, the biggest most immediate problems are the global climate crisis and nuclear weapons. Those are known quantities, and, yet, are things we simply aren't able to deal with as humans.
