I'm going to go for the Health Savings Account. I'll be max'ing it out at $7750 annually + the over-55 catch of $1000 for a total of $8750, so that we can reap the maximum tax savings. The deductible is $3000 and the max out-of-pocket is $10000. The spread between the contribution and the max out-of-pocket is $1250, and the spread between the contribution and the deductible is $5750. So, if either of needs surgery or gets cancer, any pre-tax savings would be eaten up plus we'd need to pay $1250 after-tax. (Note that is slightly more than the spread of $6600 for the traditional one between the max out-of-pocket and the deductible . One hopes that, with the tax savings of the HSA, the $400 difference may be negligible.) I feel sorry for people who are forced into HSAs (https://ournextlife.com/2018/06/25/hsa/ ) who cannot max out their contributions because they would end up paying after-tax for any care in case of a catastrophe. (They probably would be able to claim the medical expenses on their taxes, but, by then, it would be too late.) > From: http://dummy.us.eu.org/robert (Robert) > Date: Sat, 12 Nov 2022 08:13:35 -0800 > > I put my benefits sheets into the /tmp directory on your computer. > > We can go over everything this afternoon.
