Dear Robert,
The Esalen Institute Experience
Esalen is a holistic retreat and educational institute. Established in 1962 and
considered the epicenter of the Human Potential Movement, we are a non-profit
offering comfort and space for exploration, transformation, and healing within
the wilds of Big Sur’s majestic mountainscape and glittering coastline. Our
curiosity and research explores new ideas around creativity and the brain, body
work, spirituality, leadership, Gestalt, plant medicine, citizen diplomacy, and
more.
Esalen is a living and learning community made up of guests, students, faculty
and staff.
To learn more about Esalen’s history and cultural contributions, please
enjoy our video page and tune into our podcast, Voices of Esalen.

Esalen (Slates) Hot Springs & Swimming Pool
Our cliffside hot springs are a reverent place of relaxation and healing. For
many, these sacred waters are at the heart of the Esalen experience. As
co-stewards with the Esselen Tribe of Monterey Country of these special hot
springs, we place the utmost importance on the baths being both a sacred and
welcoming place for all. Communal bathing and individual tubs are available on
a first-come, first-served basis. The Esalen hot spring baths and swimming pool
are clothing optional spaces.
Esalen Massage & Healing Arts
Massages and Alternative Healing Arts services may be reserved online up to
two months in advance. For questions or booking support, please email

s cliffside location. Some accommodations are accessed via stairs. To best
support your mobility needs, please contact Guest Services in advance at (831)
