"the big story is that Kamala Harris got 6.8 million fewer votes than
Biden". Yeah, this is exactly the point. It isn't that Trump grew his
voting base much, it's that Biden/Harris severely lost theirs.
I guess these were the people who didn't want their vote to go to a
cryptofascist, but also felt like housing and egg prices were out of
control.
Extremism: In the VoteCast sample, 46% were very concerned about Trump's
extremism and nearly 60% were at least somewhat concerned. Some of them
voted for him anyway, despite their concerns.
Authoritarianism: In the VoteCast survey, 45% were very concerned that
Trump would "bring the U.S. closer to being an authoritarian country,
where a single leader has unchecked power." Another 10% were somewhat
concerned. That's a majority.
Wow, this is disturbing. I guess people completely ignore all the
policies and policy implications when voting. Maybe democracy is a
bad idea after all.
"we have a more detailed piece on this coming soon, if the economy is
going to override most/all other concerns, then that largely turns the
election into a crapshoot." Yeah, this is what I think. Looking forward
to seeing the numbers.
"Think about everyone in the last century who has clearly won an election
based on the poor state of the economy". Not sure why Biden wasn't in
this list.
"Finding an authentic, charismatic candidate who the voters love".
Unfortunately, I think Bernie Sanders was a once-in-a-lifetime politician.
I cannot even think of anyone who was as good at communicating class
struggle as he is, and who is a politician. Maybe Katie Halpert knows of
someone.
