And to you as well, good to hear from you. And I appreciate the level of
detail. (I still need to circle back and thoroughly read it.) Were you
still with noSticwall when you were laid off?
After leaving noSticwall in December 2016, I took some time off, then
joined Zycada, a startup in Milpitas, as their security lead. It was a lot
of fun working for a startup again, and every bit as hard as I remembered
it. They ran out of money and I was laid off in December 2018, then went
to Palo Alto Networks. My project failed (no management support), and I
never liked working there anyway (too big), so I quit in 2021 and joined
Fastly, another small company in San Francisco, working with the Web
Firewall team. I loved that job, but failing health pushed me to retire
from working in July 2023. What made Zycada and Fastly so fun, I think, is
I was a junior guy compared to most of the other people. I learned a lot.
Mostly now I'm helping my wife with her (extensive) volunteer projects,
coding, photography, and helping out at my church. Health continues to
limit what I can do in any 24-hour period, but within that I'm quite busy.
