Well, I never learned how to repair the wheel of a buggy or a mechanical
wristwatch, and I'm OK with that.
But, I agree with the overall point that knowing about old stuff can be
its own goal.
Keeps one's life interesting, even if you were stuck on the Aniara
spaceship.
