I agree that embracing "rent controls, community land trusts, and housing
cooperatives that restrict resale value" would be good in the short term.
In any case, if there are any slowdowns in the building of housing (which
I fully expect if interest rates stay high), the government should build
housing -- any housing, even public housing. It's a fight against the
greedy corporate entities wanting to keep housing prices going up and, at
this point, they are winning. (Certainly, people not voting and, in
particular, not voting for rent control, does not help matters.
Unfortunately, we'll never get a state-wide referendum for that again.)
