This was mentioned on "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me".

Seems like a better rule would be: if I saw this in the store and it was
covered in shit, or if I received this package and the item was covered in
shit, would I buy it or keep it?

I.e., the problem is the consumption side, not on the storage side.
