Subject: Re:Legislation or Budget Proposal/Idea
As your constituent, I urge you to vote NO on A.B. 1709. This bill threatens
free speech, privacy, and fiscal responsibility.
Requiring biometric scans or government IDs to access social media forces
Cans to surrender privacy for participation in public discourse.
This creates a dangerous precedent and a massive security risk. Worse, the
infrastructure could enable lifelong government tracking, effectively
establishing a national ID system without public consent.
The bill relies on flawed research. For marginalized youth, including
LGBTQ+ teens, online spaces are vital for safety and support. A
one-size-fits-all ban ignores these realities and endangers vulnerable
communities.
At a time of an $18 billion deficit, creating a new e-Safety Commission is
fiscally reckless. Litigation over this unconstitutional measure will
waste millions more.
Family decisions belong to families, not the state. Parents -not
government- should decide when their children are ready for social media.
Please protect constitutional rights, privacy, and taxpayer dollars. If
this bill passes in the assembly, please vote NO on A.B. 1709 if it
reaches the state senate.
