banning Plato in the schools

I had to read The Republic as part of "Intro Western Civ" in high school.
For one of the bases of western civilization, I think it makes sense to
read it.  We also had to read parts of the bible (might not be allowed
today?) and some of St. Augustine, and Freud and Marx.  Definitely one of
my favorite courses in high school.
