I don't think I ever significantly disagreed with my parents, either
politically or philosophically, but, as an introvert, and, especially,
living far away from them for most of my life, I always had very little
contact with them in general. During college, I talked with them maybe
once per month on the phone. After college, I spoke with them even less.
I talked with them more during the 5 years I lived close to them in the
late 90s, but, admittedly, I tried to avoid them because I felt like I
just couldn't get anything done or do what I want when I was around them.
After moving back to the west coast, I again fell into the low-contact
mode. And it was fine by me.
All of what I said was probably not relevant to the point you were making,
but just wanted to throw in my $.02.
