I included a mention of this in a past solstice message, but my lowback
surgery in 2018 cost $72,000 but I had to "only" pay $8,000 for it (via my
Flexible Spending Account, so minus the appropriate taxes). Although I
was operated on in a hospital, it was all outpatient.
I suspect that if I did not have a good income and no medical insurance,
I'd be walking with a cane right now.
