homeownership vs. renting

I found out that there were more renters than homeowners in the United
States prior to 1945.  The New Deal program of the National Housing Act of
1934 was where the push began and, since then, there have been more
homeowners than renters.  The motivation of the program was to damper
socialist tendencies and encourage more capitalist thinking
