Specific Guidelines
Not meeting specific requirements will result in leaving the item behind.
Please speak to a Customer Service Representative to discuss items not on the
list.
These requirements are for the safety of others while the truck is moving, the
employees handling the material and minors that might play with items set out
on the street.
Item Condition: All items must be free of liquids (gas, oil, water, etc.),
glass, feces, mold and loose debris.
How to Bundle: Bundling is to wrap up or tie up your items for safe handling by
our staff. The bundle must be wrapped or tied at both ends. We recommend the
use of Duct Tape or small diameter rope (3/16-Inch (4.7 MM) to Inch (6.4 MM)
to bundle with. Duct Tape tends to be less expensive and easier to use than
rope. A tight bundle is critical for a successful pickup. Larger diameter rope
and twine do not maintain a tight bundles.
Bed: Mattress and Box Spring will not be excessively wet, will be free of bed
bugs, mold, and/or fecal matter. Compromised items will be left behind. Bed
Frames have to be disassembled. Bed Rails (wood or metal) need to be bundled
together at both ends with duct tape or rope. Wooden bed slats need to be
bundled together following the "Wood" guideline. Headboard and Footboard can be
unbundled.
Wood: Needs to be bundled securely in bundles of 5 FT x 2 FT x 2 FT and under
60lbs. All nails and screws must be removed. Each bundle counts as 1 item.
Wood not accepted: Pressure treated wood is not accepted into the recycle
program as the chemicals render the wood unusable for recycling. Wood Pallets
larger than 4 ft x 4 ft construction will not be accepted.
Carpet/Padding: Carpet and/or padding should be rolled tightly and bundled at
both ends with Duct Tape. Carpet and padding must be in separate rolls. Wet
carpet & padding rolls/Bundles should be no larger than 4 FT x 2 FT and dry
rolls should no larger than 6 FT x 2 FT rolls. Each roll counts as 1 item.
Refrigerator/Freezer: We do not accept commercial refrigerators/freezers or
ones that have locking doors. Please clean the refrigerator so that there is no
mold present anywhere on the appliance. Empty all food and fluid contents;
remove glass from shelves and dispose of the glass in the garbage cart, not the
recycle cart. Shelves (metal or plastic) and the ice maker remain inside. Tape
doors shut with Duct Tape. Apply 1st Tape Row 1 foot below the top of the
Refrigerator. 2 Tape Second row in the middle. A 3rd tape row 1 foot from the
bottom. Taping just 3 sides. Do not tape the BACK side which results in
wrapping all the way around the appliance. Drivers need to open the doors to
inspect inside. Doors not securely taped shut will result in the
refrigerator/freezer being left behind.
Toilets (1 Piece or 2 Piece): Tank and bowl are dry. Body is free of urine or
fecal matter. No cracks or broken body parts. Please inform Customer Service
if the tank is removed (makes 2 items on list).
Boxes: Generally, if an item is approved by CWS Customer Service to be boxed up,
the boxed packages must be no larger than 4FT x 4FT x 2FT, under 60 pounds and
taped shut with duct tape.
Clothes/Textiles: Clothes and textiles are required to be placed in one of two
packages.
Boxes: All boxed packages must be no larger than 4 FT x 4 FT x 2 FT, weigh
under 60 pounds and be taped shut with duct tape (not shipping tape).
Plastic Bags: All bags must be clear/see through plastic garbage bags. 13 Gal
or 30-32 Gal sized bags are OK to use. Bags must weigh less than 60 pounds.
We DO NOT ACCEPT commercial items, construction debris, glass (except intact
glass on TV), mirrors, hazardous waste or furniture that has/had bed bugs.
Items must not be placed in bags or boxes, unless otherwise specified. Santa
Clara County provides a hazardous waste program for many items we cannot
recycle (Ex: paint, fluorescent light bulbs, batteries etc.).
REMINDER: IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ITEMS YOU HAVE SCHEDULED FOR PICK
UP AND/OR THESE INSTRUCTIONS, YOU MUST CALL AND SPEAK WITH A CUSTOMER SERVICE
REPRESENTATIVE AT 408-213-7800.
best regards,
