constant growth

I was listening to a radio program about the book
https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/G/bo270819727.html and
part of his argument is that the entire economy is premised on constantly
expanding growth.  And, population growth is one of the drivers of that.
Escaping from that model seems difficult, assuming that you want humans to
continue to live (which, these days, might be a big assumption).
