Hi, Robert, thank you for writing. My name is Maren Souders; I'm the outreach & marketing person at CarSharing Portland, and I apologize for the long delay in replying to your message. I was cleaning out our chock-full inbox the other day and came across it. > Hi. Do you know if there are any plans of projects for Car Sharing in > other parts of the U.S. besides Portland? > > I'd be especially interested in Boston, Santa Barbara, and the San > Francisco Bay Area. The biggest car sharing project that is in the works for another US city is Seattle. They plan to launch a major effort (100 cars on the street in the first year) later this year, probably in the early fall. For information on that project you can contact Eileen Kadesh at King County Metro (the transit agency) at (206)684-1600. There is also a now-beginning-to-operate small car sharing co-op in Boulder, CO, called the Boulder Car Cooperative. The contact name there is (Mr.) Jamie York, at (303)545-9221. Corvallis, OR is also working on putting together a cooperative, but they do not have any cars yet. Chicago will also be starting a car sharing project in the near future; contact (Mr.) Kim Hoeveler at the Center for Neighborhood Technology at (773)278-4800. As for the cities you specifically mentioned, I am not aware of any organized effort in Boston or Santa Barbara at this time, although I am sure there is some interest in both places. There is a group in San Francisco working on getting a car sharing organization started. They are the San Francisco Car Cooperative, and they can be reached at (415)285-5842. I hope this information is useful. My apologies again for the delay. We will keep your name and information on file, and we can contact you when we are ready to expand/franchise (probably in a year or so). Meanwhile, feel free to check our Web site, which includes links to other information and organizations. -Maren http://www.carsharing-pdx.com
