cost of college -- an underlying assumption

There seems to be an underlying assumption about college -- that everyone needs to go.  Because your guests are college professors, they don't look at the big picture.  Because it has become impossible to earn a living without going to college primarily due to the decline of union participation, people are forced to go to college.  The increased demand has naturally increased the price.  The underlying assumption needs to be more carefully examined.
