And there was never a firmware upgrade which supported WPA. So, I wouldn't use it unless you really have to. Like you said, you can get WPA-enabled wireless routers for under $40. Or, you could get a fancy one, such as http://www.amazon.com/Buffalo-Technology-WHR-HP-G54-Wireless-G-Performance/dp/B000AOKTJ8 You can also run Linux on this router, which would allow you to increase security if you need to.
